Amy’s Plate AdventureIllustration, Product Design
To answer the brief about innovation for reducing food waste with illustration, this project was curated for children under 5 years old who are still exploring food. By emphasising on improving the eating experience through a storybook eating mat, this product will teach about eating habits to prevent any more food waste. Using brightly coloured illustrations and a fun storyline, children will be motivated to complete their journey and eat what has been prepared by their parents.

problem
Food waste makes up about half of the average 1.5kg of waste disposed of by each household in Singapore daily. It is known that families with children produce more total food waste at the household level

insight

The habit of wasting food in children is caused by curiosity, preference, and a boring way of eating. In addition, family is the starting point for developing children’s habits. Therefore, how can we enhance the eating experience for children?

Book Illustration

how it works  Children were given an eating mat with the storyline of a girl on a journey. Slices of food were placed on the dot seen in the mat prepared beforehand by their parents. While reading the story, children were asked to finish the food before Amy's character could continue the journey (change to the next mat). There are 3 mats available that could be filled with different choices of food.
